Chaotic scenes unfolded across Tehran after a series of airstrikes targeted key oil storage facilities, triggering massive fires throughout the Iranian capital. Witnesses reported towering columns of smoke and huge flames that illuminated the night sky. Several videos circulating online captured the moment intense explosions erupted, briefly turning night into day as fireballs and shockwaves spread across nearby areas.
Residents described hearing loud blasts followed by large plumes of smoke rising above the city skyline. Flames reportedly spread across surrounding streets, creating an alarming situation for people living close to the targeted sites.
Key Oil Facilities Among Targets
Iranian officials confirmed that at least four major oil storage facilities and a production centre were hit during the attacks. The affected locations included the Aghdasieh oil warehouse in northeast Tehran, the Shahran oil depot in the western part of the city, and the Tehran refinery in the south. Another oil depot in Karaj, located in the neighbouring Alborz province, was also struck.
The attacks sparked large fires that burned for hours, making emergency response operations difficult. Authorities said the Shahran oil depot suffered severe damage, with reports indicating that oil leaked onto nearby roads after the explosions.
Eyewitnesses Describe Terrifying Blasts
Residents living near the affected areas recounted terrifying moments as the explosions shook the city. One eyewitness said the night sky suddenly flashed bright before a powerful blast followed moments later. According to the witness, the explosion produced a massive red cloud that quickly spread across the skyline.
Several residents said the blasts were strong enough to rattle buildings and windows. Many people woke up to the sound of explosions and rushed outside to see flames lighting up the sky.
Thick Smoke and Health Concerns Rise
By morning, large parts of Tehran were covered in a thick haze caused by the fires. Residents reported a strong smell of burning fuel lingering in the air, while heavy smoke reduced visibility across parts of the city.
Iranian health officials urged residents to remain indoors due to the potential health risks from toxic fumes released by the fires. Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for the Iranian foreign ministry, warned that the attacks had released hazardous materials into the atmosphere that could pose serious health threats.
Rising Tensions and Casualties Reported
The attacks resulted in casualties, with Iran’s oil distribution company confirming that at least four employees were killed. The strikes are part of a broader escalation in tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue military pressure on Iran’s leadership, while Donald Trump expressed support for the strikes, citing concerns over Iran’s nuclear program. Reports suggest that more than 1,300 people have died in Iran since the conflict intensified.
For many residents in Tehran and surrounding regions, the aftermath of the attacks has left haunting scenes of burning streets, red skies and thick smoke clouds, highlighting the severity of the unfolding crisis.
